Columbia Animal Shelter Cuts Adoption Fees

It's said that April showers bring May flowers...but they're also bringing some savings on pet adoption fees at the Columbia Animal Shelter.

Any day that it rains during the month of April, the adoption fees for dogs and cats one year or older are half off –  a savings of about $35.

Animal Shelter Director Marli Drum says there's also a game you can play on days where it doesn't rain and still get a discount on the adoption fees.

“We literally will be 'raining cats and dogs' here pretty soon.  It's spring, which means we start getting litters of puppies and kittens,” Drum says.

“So we're trying to get some specials rolling and get the word out to folks that we need to get some of these adult animals into new homes and to make room for what is coming here in the next month or two.”

Drum says all animals up for adoption have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and de-wormed.

The discounted fees also include heartworm testing for dogs and tests for feline leukemia and aids in cats.
