The City of Columbia held it's third annual Famously Hot New Year's Eve Party Tuesday night.
Attendance figures were not available yet, but more than 20,000 people gathered near the Statehouse each of the first two years to count down to the new year.
Live musical entertainment this year included Kool & the Gang, ZZ Ward and Weaving the Fate.
There was also the largest New Year's Eve fireworks display in the Carolinas.
Parents also had an opportunity to celebrate New Year's Eve with their children when the City of Columbia's Main Street ICE rink added a carnival Tuesday evening.
Kim Mitchell, with the city Parks and Recreation Department, says there was plenty to do in Boyd Plaza at Hampton and Main Street.
“It's a way for families to spend New Year's Eve together before the parents go out and do the grown-up stuff,” Mitchell says.
The scheduled events included carnival rides, entertainment, karaoke, and the ice skating rink was open until midnight.
By the way, the ice rink is currently opening earlier during the week at noon to coincide with local school districts' winter break schedules.
That will end on Friday, and the rink's last day for this season will be January 20th.
