CHARLESTON, S.C.  (AP/WVOC) - A former Special Olympics volunteer coach in the Midlands has been sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for having sex with a 15-year-old athlete.

Cornelius Davis of Hopkins pleaded guilty in Charleston on Tuesday.

Davis apologized to the victim as part of the plea.  He also apologized to his own family.

Mount Pleasant police say Davis had been with the girl at least twice.

He was accused of having sex with the teen at a hotel during the 2012 Special Olympics Winter Games.
