Officials have released a sketch of a suspect being sought in a sexual assault while he impersonated a Springdale police officer in Lexington County.
Police Chief Kevin Cornett says about 8:30 Tuesday night, a man stopped a woman in the 1000 block of Wattling Road using a small blue light on his vehicle's dashboard.
Cornett says the man told the woman her license tag light was out, but when she got out of her vehicle, he began hitting her and forced her to the edge of a wooded area where he sexually assaulted her.
The man then fled in his vehicle, which was a small, four-door car.
The suspect is described as a white male, 25-to-35 years old, with light brown or red hair but no facial hair.
He was wearing a black T-shirt with “POLICE” written on the front, a black windbreaker-style jacket, khaki pants, and a box-style holster similar to one used for a police radio or cell phone, but not a gun.
Investigators with the Springdale Police Department and State Law Enforcement Division are working together to investigate the incident.
