COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/WVOC) – Governor Nikki Haley and state Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt will be in Germany this week to recruit jobs at the world's biggest show for the automotive industry.
Hitt says he and Haley leave Monday for the 65th International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany.
The head of South Carolina's economic development agency says it's the first time a South Carolina governor has attended the event.
Four other state employees are also going.
Hitt says more than 50 meetings are planned, including one Tuesday with executives of BMW, which employs more than 7,000 people in the Upstate and contracts with 40 suppliers in South Carolina.
Hitt was BMW's spokesman for 18 years before becoming Commerce chief.
The state agency expects the trip to cost less than $100,000.
