Lexington County authorities are searching for a Columbia man in the fatal shooting of a man earlier this year in the parking lot of a bar in the St. Andrews community.
Sheriff's Major John Allard says about 5:30 the morning of February 2nd, 20-year-old Gregory Brooks and 31-year-old Brandon Ratliff had an encounter outside the Cockpit Bar and Grill.
“Brooks fatally shot Ratliff while Ratliff tried to mediate a dispute that involved Brooks and several additional persons outside the Berryhill Road bar,” Allard says. “Brooks provided detectives with false information concerning his whereabouts at the time of the fatal shooting.”
Allard says after the shooting, Ratliff was transported in a private vehicle to Lexington Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
He says Brooks faces charges of murder, and also violated state law by unlawfully possessing a handgun because he had previously been convicted of a violent crime that's a felony.
Anyone with information on Brooks' whereabouts is urged to contact Crimestoppers.
