Miss SC Urges Statewide Texting-while-Driving Ban

COLUMBIA, S.C.  (AP/WVOC) - Miss South Carolina Brooke Mosteller joined several other pageant contestants at the Statehouse Wednesday, but not to model evening gowns or swimsuits.

They were urging lawmakers to to ban texting while driving.

Mosteller says the texting behind the wheel is six times more dangerous than drunk driving and is the leading cause of death for American teens.

The House and Senate have passed differing versions of a proposed ban in response to confusion created by local governments enacting various measures.

South Carolina and Montana are the last states that do not have laws against texting while driving.
