New Columbia Police Chief Promotes Former

Columbia's new police chief has promoted the man who filled in before him to be his second-in-command.

Chief Skip Holbrook has named Melron Kelly as deputy chief.

Kelly will also continue to command the Uniform Operations Bureau, which includes several units such as the Patrol Division; Drug Suppression Team; the Gang, Traffic Safety and K-9 units; and School Resource Officers.

Kelly served briefly as interim chief after the resignation of Interim Chief Ruben Santiago.

Two other promotions by the new chief:  Captain Kellie Yates becomes a lieutenant in the west region, which includes Harbison; and Lieutenant Tim Holbrook – no relation to the chief – is promoted to captain of the north region, which takes in North Columbia.
