Richland County Gets Interim Elections Chief

Richland County Gets Interim Elections Chief

Richland County has a different elections director a couple days early.

When the County Elections Commission fired director Howard Jackson on Monday, his last day was supposed to be tomorrow.

But Jackson went public with a list of accusations, claiming the board had given him “unlawful orders,” overrode him in personnel matters and had repeatedly threatened his firing.

When the board met yesterday, members voted 4 to 1 to end Jackson's employment immediately.

Board member Samuel Selph was then appointed as interim director.

Selph disagrees with Jackson's allegations and promises better days ahead.

Meanwhile, Jackson wants an investigation and met with the State Law Enforcement Division yesterday, handing over various documents he says back up his claims of unlawful meddling by the elections board.
