SC Senate OKs Extra Snow Days

SC Senate OKs Extra Snow Days

COLUMBIA, S.C.  (AP/WVOC) - The state Senate has approved a bill that would allow school boards to forgive up to five days of classes canceled during this winter's back-to-back snow and ice storms.

The measure would waive state law that requires schools to make up all days missed due to extreme weather.

Before excusing any, schools would first have to use up their scheduled makeup days, if any are left in their remaining school year.

By law, districts are supposed to build three makeup days into their calendar in case they're needed.

The House passed its version on February 6th, after the first round of wintry weather.

The Senate intended to take it up the following week when a second, harsher storm struck.

The amended bill now returns to the House.
