Student Arrested for Sumter County School Bomb Threat

Student Arrested for Sumter County School Bomb Threat

A student has been arrested after a bomb threat was e-mailed to a Sumter County school Thursday.

The Sheriff's Department says the suspect claimed four bombs were placed around Lakewood High School and he also threatened to shoot students and teachers who survived.

The e-mail stated the bombs would go off at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and the suspect said, “You will not find them.  Isn't it amazing, the things you can get on the Internet?  With only a cell phone?”

Authorities evacuated the school and some students waited outside in cold weather for more than two hours while a search was conducted.

No bombs were found, and investigators traced the e-mail to a 17-year-old student who was taken into custody.

He has been charged with making a bomb threat, disturbing school, threatening the life of school staff and unlawful use of a phone.
