Suspect Charged with Murder in SC State Shooting

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP/WVOC) – A South Carolina State University student has been charged with the murder of a fellow student.

The State Law Enforcement Division says 19-year-old Justin Singleton of Charleston shot 20-year-old Brandon Robinson of Orangeburg in the neck Friday after the two argued.

The shooting occurred about 1:30 outside Hugine Suites, a student apartment complex on the Orangeburg campus, but neither student lived there.

The university says Robinson was a junior engineering technology major and a defensive specialist on the school's football team and appeared in four games.

Singleton (pictured above) is a sophomore business major who also played on the team.

The State newspaper reports Singleton was charged with public disorderly conduct by S.C. State University police in April.

Singleton's mother is an employee at the university.

Investigators have not released a motive for the shooting.
