Thefts from Vehicles in 2 Counties May Be Linked

Authorities now believe the same suspects may be responsible for stealing personal items from vehicles in two counties.

The latest thefts occurred Monday in the 200 block of Timbergate Drive in Lexington.

And investigators think two suspects seen in surveillance video also hit the Chapin area in April and earlier this month, stealing cell phones, money and personal documents.

Richland County Sheriff's Sergeant Curtis Wilson says those thefts occurred April 4th along Hawks Ridge Court and May 4th and 5th along Sienna Drive.

“Vehicles have been unlocked and so it gave easy access to these criminals.  So we want to remind citizens to make sure that you lock up your vehicles and take those valuables that you may have in plain sight and hide them – put them into your glove compartment, put them in the trunk, take them into the house.  And if possible, also park in a well-lighted area,” Wilson advises.

Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to contact either the Richland or Lexington County Sheriff's Department or Crimestoppers.
